Me & YOga

From Vancouver to now

I was born and raised in Vancouver, Canada.  At 18, I left my nest to study theatre in Toronto. With a bachelors of Fine Arts in my pocket and a zest to discover more about the world, I flew across the Atlantic.  Life and its wonders welcomed me and I have been on the move discovering new cultures and lifestyles ever since.

I’ve taught Drama in Paris, English in Japan, and Philosophy in southern Germany. I’ve studied Kathak dance in India, completed a master in Theatre in Ireland, and began my yoga teaching path on Gozo, Malta.

I moved to the fabulous city of Berlin in 2009. I feel very at home here. I teach weekly yoga classes in Berlin and host yoga weekends outside of the city.  It  is a such a joy to continually share my knowledge and passion for yoga.

Yoga As Lifesyte

I have been practicing yoga since 1997. I instantly fell in love with yoga: with standing still and sweating, with not moving but moving, with needing nothing but my body, mind, breath, with becoming more and more and always more aware of myself and of life. I was first attracted to the physical side of yoga and how through the asana practice my busy mind and heart could find peace and stillness (even if that peace and stillness doesn’t always last long). With time, as my practice evolves and deepens, I find myself more and more drawn to the way of yoga, to yoga as a lifestyle, to the beauty and clarity of its philosophy and to making the commitment to living yoga each day in all that I do.  Meditation has become integral part of my daily yoga practice.

My Trainings

In 2007, I became a certified (Yoga Alliance) yoga teacher training with Dave Curtis in Cork, Ireland.

Since June 2010, I have been training with Paul and Suzee Grilley. Their rich knowledge of Yin Yoga, Meridians, Chakras, and Anatomy is inspiring.  They teach functual yoga, honouring everyone's of skeletal variations.  We are all truly unique from the bones up and our yoga practices need to celebrate that.  (See my blog).  I have completed their YYTT1 (2010) & YYTT2 (2015) as well as done a week workshop with them in London (2014).

I have been training yearly with Sarah Powers since 2010 .  Sarah Power’s blend of Yoga with Buddhist mindfulness and meditation are a deep source of inspiration and grounding for me.  In 2012, I became apart of the Insight Yoga Institute with Sarah Powers as my mentor.  It is such a pleasure and honor to be studying under her guidance.  In 2016, I became an Insight Yoga Institute Endorsed Teacher and Mentor.

My Teaching

After completing my first teacher training, I moved to Gozo, Malta where I began teaching yoga full time. I took my sixteen years of teaching experience and applied it to yoga.  I felt immediately at home as a yoga teacher. I taught and hosted week long yoga holidays for Yogatraveller. I also built up a faithful local cliental whom I taught privately and in small groups.

Since September 2009, I have been teaching various classes in Berlin and hosting Yoga Weekend Retreats. I teach: Yin yoga, Hatha yoga (auf Deutsch and in English), Yoga for Actors, Private classes, Pregnancy Yoga, Rückbuilding Yoga and Kids yoga.

I am full of wonder for yoga. I gain so much from my practice and study. It is a blessing to have the opportunity to share my understanding of it with my students. Together we learn more and grow deeper into ourselves.

my classes

I teach a yoga with a functional approach, honouring our diverse individual anatomical variations. My classes vary from relaxing and restorative yoga through still but challenging Yin classes to dynamic flowing Hatha (yang) class.  I take into account the abilities and levels of my students and aim to create classes that both support and challenge them. There is a lot of laughter in my classes.

In all my classes, I encourage my students to connect with the moment at hand. Yoga class is a time to feel into what is happening in this moment and to be with it.  The postures are there to support us through building strength, increasing flexibility, and harvesting energy.  We take this gathered strength and clarity, and bring it with us as we meet our daily challenges and joys.
