Yin Yoga Workshop:

Cultivating Awareness:

Body, Mind & Heart

Through yin yoga and mindfulness meditation, we will explore ways to open ourselves up to all that we are.  Instead of continuing on automatic pilot, doing our best to get from one thing to the next, we will pause, soften, and connect.  We will tune into our bodies through long held yin postures.  This time in stillness will also give us a chance to lean into our minds and hearts; seeing/feeling/being with how they really are at this moment. With curiosity and kindness, we will explore our complexity and depth. These practices, although challenging, offer us more energy and space to fully meet the joys and sorrows of life.  They bring more vividness and ease into our physical, emotional, and mental lives.

Morning Session: 10:00-13:30

Mindfullness Meditation:

Softening into now through (Anapanasati) breath awareness

Landing in the belly:

Through shorter held yin postures, we will feel into our lower body.  We will tune into our intuitive center: the Hara. Cultivating our awareness of what is here at the moment.

Tea break

Landing in the heart and mind:

In this class, we will focus on upper body.  This practice releases tensions in the shoulders and neck and also opens the chest: stimulating chi flow in the heart and lungs. It helps us breathe smoother, allowing our body to go from  fight and flight (sympathetic nervous system) to rest and digest (parasympathetic nervous system).

13:30 - 15:00 Lunch break

Lovely cafes nearby for a delicious meal.

Afternoon Session:

15:00-18:30

Mindfullness Meditation:

Opening ourselves to now through (vipassana) inquiry  meditation

Feeling the body, heart and mind:

We will slow down into long held yin postures that help open the front and back of the body. In the stillness of the postures, we will engage in  inquiry practices and visualizations.

Tea break

Surrendering into stillness and silence:

Continuing with long yin holds, we will twist and practice hip openers to target the middle layer of the body.  We will allow the power of the physical practice and silence to do their magic.

Yin with a splash of Yang

Yoga DAy Retreat

Being with the body and mind

We will take a journey through our entire body stimulating the 12 primary meridians. The  morning workshop focuses on gathering Chi/Prana.  We will do shorter holds and pranayama.  In the afternoon, we will be storing our gathered Chi/Prana through surrendering to stillness and quiet. Over the course of the day, we will stretch, contract, and compress our bodies in order to be more fully engaged with them. This workshop will offer us tools and insight into how to meet our bodies and minds as they are with openness and creativity allowing for more authentic, compassionate living.

Slow yin for the Hips and Sides of the Body:

Continuing with long yin holds, we will stimulate the liver/gallbladder meridians through twists and deep hip openers.

What is Yin Yoga:

Yin yoga is a still, slow form of yoga. Postures are done sitting or lying and are held for 2 to 5 minutes long.  It is the vital balance needed to an active, dynamic, and muscular yoga practice or lifestyle. Yin targets the fascia (connective tissue) and meridians, creating more ease throughout the body, especially in your joints. It is extremely helpful for relieving back pain and loss of flexibility. Yin yoga helps us to achieve and maintain our own personal range of motion. By activating the meridians and the parasympathetic nervous system, it calms our body and minds.  It relieves stress and tension in the physical body. It opens us up to the depth of our emotional body, providing us with time and space to hold and digest our emotions. Through yin's natural meditative qualities, it helps still the mind allowing for more clarity of thought and insight.
